What is Farm Management?
You may have noticed that each of the photos on the home page has a pop-up heading if you let your cursor hang over it. Each photo represents 2 of the many functions that are involved in farm management – so if you add “management” to each of the headings you will see but a few of the many roles that are part of what “farm management” includes. Very often all of these roles are the responsibility of just one person, the farmer or manager.
Discussions about what the discipline of “farm management” includes usually go on for a long time, and one realises that the term means different things to different people – so often depending on their own particular circumstances.
In addition to those represented on the home page here are a few more – words that you can add “management” to in the context of farming:financial & cash flow, marketing & sales, health & safety, forecasting & short / long term planning, inheritance & succession.
